Why You Should Consider a Career in Real Estate in 2022

This week on My Greenville Home, Dan spoke with Jevon Clarke, a popular return guest and Listing Agent at Hamilton & Co., about a career in real estate in 2022.

The Greenville real estate market has been booming for over a year, and it doesn’t seem like it will slow down in the near future. With Greenville earning national accolades such as Top Remote City and Top Housing Market, our popular city continues to be a highly desired area by people around the nation. Does this fast-paced, high-demand market mean it is a good time to begin a career in real estate? Or would a new agent be completely overwhelmed? Today, Jevon Clarke shares his insight into the current market, the benefits of joining a successful team, and more.

What are some things someone considering a career in real estate should be prepared for in Greenville’s housing market?

According to Jevon, an aspiring agent needs to be concerned with two things: one, “What do I need to do and how do I do that?” and two, “Where are my leads coming from?”

Fortunately, joining a real estate team makes both of these big concerns super manageable! On a team, you’re trained by successful agents like Jevon and you’re given leads. Jevon advises any new agent to join a team, even if for only a year or two. The generated leads, the collaboration, and the education are invaluable to anyone, especially if you are just starting your career as an agent. Jevon shared that he has the experience to go off and do business on his own but vastly prefers being on a team. “You can’t put a price tag on the benefits of aligning with a team.”

Dan agrees with Jevon. “As a solo agent, you have to do everything,” he pointed out, “If you don’t have anyone to talk to, you won’t be able to make money.”

It’s easy to get overwhelmed at the beginning. What are additional benefits of a team?

Jevon pointed out that most productive agents enjoy either the chase or the negotiation components of the real estate agent position. “No one I’ve talked to enjoys crossing t’s or dotting i’s, and it’s definitely not what is portrayed on HGTV.”

As a member of a real estate team, you have a talented administration team that takes care of all the details for you quickly and efficiently, freeing you up to do what you actually love.

What are the characteristics of people who succeed in this real estate?

Individuals with a strong work ethic and a willingness to ask questions always do well. If you are asking questions, it shows you are actively engaged in your work.

What tips would you share with aspiring real estate agents or those who are considering a career change?

“First, don’t get analysis paralysis,” Jevon advises, “Just don’t overthink it. Go ahead and get enrolled in your real estate class. Worse case scenario you don’t like it, but a class is a great way to learn about the industry.

“Second, stop by our Hamilton & Co. offices and talk to us about a career in real estate! We can answer your questions and show you a day in the life. The great thing about a team is that we can guide you from signing up for a class to your first contract.”
